Equipment Engineer

1. SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

Primary responsibility to ensure the metals production equipment is maintained and functioning at peak performance.  While this position is expected to be able to perform typical preventive and reactive maintenance with the Equipment Techs, this Engineer will also be responsible to monitor and evaluate repeat and system problems at the metals equipment, provide continuous improvement suggestions and proposals to improve tool performance, and subsequently make and implement changes to ensure improved performance.  The goal for production equipment in this area is to attain 90% uptime.  The engineer shall be capable of supporting manufacturing with equipment issues, troubleshoot and/or replace equipment and components as necessary, and complete all tasks and projects in a safe manner that ensures a  safe, functional work environment for all personnel.  Assists the Facilities Manager as needed to determine priorities.

Correct production equipment problems by determining root cause and providing short and long term solutions as needed.

Plan and complete equipment continuous improvement tasks and projects independently and as a leader of a continuous improvement team (CIT).

Work closely with process engineering to manage changes and qualifications effectively.

Conduct, review and institute new equipment preventive maintenance (PM) tasks as defined and as needed.

Work with outside vendors and engineering on equipment upgrades and modifications as needed.

3.  OTHER PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Maintain equipment downtime database and provide reports to Facilities Manager

Order and/or stock additional repair parts and supplies as needed for the established spare parts inventory system.

Create and manage database for sputter equipment with the Metals Process Engineer

4.  EXPERIENCE:

Must have experience with high vacuum systems.  Sputtering or PVD experience is preferred.  Solid knowledge of vacuum, gauges, pumps, controls and sputtering theory. Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude for problem solving.  Minimum of 8 years experience in a relevant industry.

 

5.  EDUCATION:

Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent proven experience.

 

6.  DIMENSIONS:

Responsible to keeping to current budgets and assisting with developing future budgets and requests for capital projects.

 

7.  PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIRONMENT AND REQUIRED SAFETY EQUIPMENT:

Work is in a manufacturing environment with clean rooms with gowning requirements and tight spaces.  Must have great manual dexterity and be skilled with various hand tools.  Must be proficient with Microsoft suite.  Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.  Good writing and documentation skills.  Must be able to work evenings and/or weekends as needed.
