Operator 4 - Team Leader

Vishay Dale in Columbus, NE is currently seeking a full-time Team Leader Operator responsible for assisting in orientation, training, and work performance of individual operators and the maintenance of a high level production and quality within assigned department. Assist Engineering, in the writing and modification of process specifications.  Monitors production lines to assure compliance to process specifications. Under the guidance of the Department Supervisor and /or Product Engineers, fabricates prototypes, specials and other products / processes that cannot be produced on the main product lines. Assists and performs production functions which may fall outside the roles of maintenance or production personnel.

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Determines specific product requirements from Dale specification, supervisor, or engineering.
  • Following Engineering direction, perform and/or assist with equipment specifications and product drawings.
  • Following the appropriate company specifications or under engineering or production direction, completes the manufacturing of products.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities.
  • Gives direction on daily activities to operators and production specific employees.
  • Trains and monitors ongoing performance of individual operators to ensure the maintenance of the highest levels of quality and production.
  • Assists the line supervisor in planning and scheduling workload to ensure smooth operations and the production of orders. Expedites finished orders and the receipt of required materials whenever required to meet production schedules.
  • Makes recommendations regarding methods, workplace improvements, changes in procedures, equipment modifications.
  • Brings to the Supervisor's attention any questions, misunderstandings or issues of line personnel.
  • Reports any machine breakdowns to the Supervisor and/or maintenance, and reports any tool shortages or tools in need of repair.
  • Assists the Supervisor in monitoring and controlling line safety, ensuring that machine guarding is in place, required safety equipment is in use and safety procedures are followed.   • Operates equipment in the absence of operators or when extra capacity is needed.
  • Move operators as needed to other operations based on demand requirements.
  • Engaged in the Division’s Continuous Improvement Lean program, by providing evidence through the use either the JM (Job Method), 5s Audits, improvement on 8 types of waste.
  • Understands the operation of all assigned processes in order to provide operator training to newly assigned employees and to monitor work performance.
  • Reports accidents, participates in safety meetings, suggests improvements to promotes a safer working environment.

 

Requirements:

Associates Degree in Technical field or equivalent experience desirable.

5 years plus fast paced manufacturing experience.

Proven ability to lead groups of 15-20 people.

Ability to read product drawings, apply dimensions and geometric tolerancing for a manufacturing environment. Hand-eye coordination and good manual dexterity in order to accurately process the small parts manufactured.  Good interpersonal and communication skills in order to work in harmony with line workers, Supervisor and Engineers. Ability to understand verbal instructions and accurately produce product drawings and specifications. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail in order to accurately perform duties in the manufacture of small, close tolerance parts. Organizational skills in order to organize workstation in an efficient manner. Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in order to accurately figure production numbers. Ability to lead groups/teams in pursuing set goals and targets in the department.
