Vishay Columbus, Nebraska is currently seeking a full time Material Handler 3 responsible for drawing necessary materials from stock, prepares materials if necessary and furnishes materials to the operators within the department.  Assists the Supervisor in increasing line efficiency by insuring that materials are in place promptly, assisting in the training of new employees, managing orders through the line in proper sequence and working on the production line on occasion to assist in breaking material banks or operating key machines during operator breaks.  Assists in the hazardous waste collection in area of responsibility.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Understands all processes and specification within the department and reports to Supervisor any discrepancies in line specifications. 
  • Surveys material needs of production line, schedules the withdrawal of necessary materials from stock, prepares materials for manufacturing if necessary and furnishes materials to department operators as needed.
  • Assists Supervisor in managing the line flow of orders including expediting, filling in at any work position as necessary or operating key machines during operator breaks.  Reports any excessive work banks at line positions to Supervisor.
  • Assists Supervisor in the instruction and training of line workers, monitors worker's technique and makes recommendations for improvement.  Reports to Supervisor any problems or difficulties encountered by the production workers in their operation, materials or equipment.
  • Moves in-process products from one workstation to another.
  • Reports any machine breakdowns to the Supervisor and/or maintenance, and reports any tool shortages or tools in need of repair.
  • Assists in the monitoring of the collection and handling of waste chemicals to insure that chemicals are not mixed.
  • Brings to the Supervisor's attention any questions, misunderstandings or issues of line personnel.
  • Answers routine questions of line workers regarding company policies, procedures, benefits or programs and refers other than routine questions to the Supervisor or to Personnel.
  • Runs queries on the computer to determine manufacturing priorities.  Must learn to use in-house developed software.
  • Performs tasks assigned by the Supervisor that are unique to a specific line or are required due to a special situation. (Examples may be setting up machines, checking subassemblies, taking inventory.)
  • Assists the Supervisor in monitoring and controlling line safety, insuring that machine guarding is in place, required safety equipment is in use and safety procedures are followed.
  • Various hand tools, computers and manufacturing equipment.


  Thorough knowledge of all line equipment, processes and materials.  Good interpersonal and communication skills in order to work in harmony with all line workers, Supervisor and support people.  Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail in order to insure that such things as the correct product is being manufactured in the required quantities and other correct materials are being used.  Good organizational skills in order to monitor and control a variety of different line activities at the same time.  Ability to understand verbal instructions from Supervisor in order to accurately adjusts to changing line/product/customer requirements.

High School diploma or equivalent.

Three months up to one year of experience.

Initial hazardous waste management procedures (RCRA) training within six months of the appointment of  position dealing with hazardous waste and subsequent annual refresher thereafter.

Initial emergency contingency plan implementation training within six months of the appointment of  position dealing with hazardous waste and subsequent annual refresher thereafter.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIRONMENT AND REQUIRED SAFETY EQUIPMENT: Eye-hand coordination and good manual dexterity in order to accurately process the small parts manufactured.  Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting in order to lift and handle materials used and products manufactured.  Mobility to easily move around the production line to service line workers, and the plant to deliver finished product to shipping or to deal with support departments such as Production Control, Accounting or Personnel.  Good working conditions.  Occasional exposure to one or more disagreeable elements such as dust, dirt, fumes, heat, cold, noise, vibration, moisture or oil.  Moderately heavy physical activity is regularly required.  May occasionally perform heavy lifting, pushing or pulling.  Typical of shop jobs which involve extensive walking or standing.
