Do you want to be a part of the critical infrastructure in today's growing technology? Vishay Dale in Columbus, NE is currently seeking a full-time Machinist – Tool and Die Apprentice responsible for operating and tending all types of production machines.
Responsibilities:
- Operates all types of machine tool equipment such as lathes, drill presses, milling machines, and surface grinders to produce tooling fixtures, and consumable parts out of various metals to include steel and aluminum, as well as plastics and other nonmetals.
- Works with machine shoe equipment.
- Changes out tooling in precision stamping dies as needed.
- Helps troubleshoot issues with dies for timely repairs and changeovers.
- Tooling changes in precision stamping dies, assignment planning, installing and setting up dies into presses, operating and making tool adjustments for various types of manuals, numerically controlled and/or computerized machine shop equipment.
- Works from blueprints, drawings, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions.
- Communicate directly with engineers to understand the purpose of a part assembly.
- Checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances.
- Makes adjustments or repairs to equipment as necessary.
- Identifies to Supervisor or Lead-person any specification, equipment, or material shortcomings
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- The training program will consist of approximately 180 hours of formal training in the following subjects: Blueprint Reading, Die Design and Theory, Precision Measurement and Safety, Manual Machining (Mill/Lathe/Heat Treating and Grinding). This will be completed within 1 year.
- Certificate in a Metals Trade or Machinist program through a qualified Technical School of no less than 18 months or its equivalent is required or 1-2 years of related experience in a machine shop or press room.
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods and remain on feet for most of the workday.
- Safety Glasses and Hearing protection are required throughout the shop.
- Depending on your assignment you may also be required to use appropriate gloves for material handling and appropriate protective clothing if working in the tumbling area or assisting in the Mold Compound room.
- If assisting in the mold compound room, you must be able to wear a respirator and be respirator trained.
- Works in a busy pressroom environment, subject at times to noise, vibration, sharp work materials and tools, and moving equipment and machinery.
- May work under conditions of varying lighting levels and in restrictive workspaces.
