Do you want to be a part of the critical infrastructure in today's growing technology? Vishay Columbus, NE is currently seeking a Full Time, Machinist responsible for operating all types of machine tool equipment. Such as wire and Diesinker EDM machines, lathes, drill presses, milling machines, and surface grinders. Produce tooling, fixtures, and consumable parts out of various metals to include steel and aluminum, as well as plastics and other non-metals.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Receives, with only general directions, work assignments from Supervisor in the form of blueprint, technical specification, or drawing.  May be required, on occasion, to improvise where equipment design is not completely specified and build tooling from piece part.
  • Build highly complex or critical tooling within the closest tolerances.  Builds components of automatic equipment, molds, dies, and fixtures.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the various materials in which tooling may be specified as well as all machines, hand tools, and inspection equipment as necessary to produce machine tools to close tolerances.
  • Determines and advises others regarding machine methods and materials to build tooling in the most-effective manner.
  • Repairs complex tooling such as dies and molds.  Works directly or indirectly with Designer or Project Engineer, as necessary.  May assist Design Engineer with project design.
  • Ensures all materials and tools are used effectively.
  • Ensures that finished product is properly documented and prepared to send to the customer in a timely manner with all necessary documentation.
  • Guides the development of more junior Machinists.
  • Makes adjustments or repairs to equipment as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Equipment Usage: Uses a wide range of machine tools to include wire and plunge EDM machines, lathe, milling machine, and associated equipment.
  • Department Supervisor for full scope of supervision.  Responsible for wide range of complex work and its accomplishment in the most efficient manner.  Advises more junior Machinists.



  • Must be able to accurately interpret and communicate complex specifications.
  • Certificate in a Metals Trade or Machinist program through a qualified Technical School of no less than 18 months or its equivalent is required.  Attainment of the Senior Machinist position will normally require 5 years broad-based Experience as a Machinist and Machinist 1st Class or equivalent.
  • Must be able to handle and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds as well as manipulate a wide size and weight range of metal stock and related materials.  Must be able to stand for prolonged periods and remain on feet for most of workday.  Works in a busy machine shop environment, subject at times to noise, vibration, sharp work materials and tools, and moving equipment and machinery. 
  • May be required to wear protective equipment such as eye and hearing protectors, steel-toed shoes, and gloves.  May work under conditions of varying lighting levels and in restrictive workspaces.  Individual is required to stand for extended periods and remain on feet most of day.
